Attention Residents, and Non –Profit Organizations!!!
In carrying out the mission to serve the informational and educational needs of the community, the East Chicago Public Library offers meeting rooms in the Main Library and the Pastrick Branch Library. These rooms are available at no charge to East Chicago residents, eligible library patrons, non-profit groups and governmental agencies wishing to present programs or to hold meetings which serve the community’s needs for education, information and cultural enrichment.

Meeting Rooms
Space is provided at no charge for meetings or programs of not-for-profit groups of two to 100. Smaller study rooms may be used by individuals. Reservations are required for use of the rooms. A refundable deposit is requested for the study rooms to insure that they are left in good order.
Computers
Apple computers are available for public use at the Main Library and Pastrick Branch. Appointments are made at the Circulation Desk or in the Children's Room. A collection of 200 Public Domain Software programs may be copied by adults free of charge. Patrons may provide their own blank computer discs or purchase them at the Circulation Desk.
Typewriters
Public typewriters located at the Main Library and the Pastrick Branch are a great help in preparing term papers, completing forms or documents and doing homework. Their use may be scheduled at the Circulation Desk.
Exhibits
Space is provided for exhibits of art and crafts by local residents. Appointments for their display may be made through the Public Relations Office.
Audio Visual
The Audio-Visual Departments have recordings and audiocassettes, compact discs and 16mm and 8mm films. They cover music and a wide variety of other subjects, many in languages other than English. More than 1,000 videocassettes in English and Spanish may be borrowed for a small donation. Convenient viewing and listening facilities equipped with earphones may be used in the library.
For a deposit, audio-visual equipment can be borrowed by East Chicago Library cardholders. These include videocassette players and projectors for 16mm and 8mm films and film strips. Framed art and sculpture may also be borrowed from the Audio-Visual Department.
Reference
Reference librarians answer thousands of in person and telephone queries each month using books, periodicals, directories, newsletters and other materials. Telephone books for major cities in the United States.
Business
Current information in the areas of corporations, small business and investments is available in the Reference Department. A major part of this collection deals with local industries, personal finances and career guidance.
