Nicholas C. Brady Book Signing

(East Chicago, IN – May 5, 2008) The East Chicago Public Library will host local author Nicholas C. Brady with his book signing at the Main Library located at 2401 East Columbus Drive on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 1 – 4:00 PM. Nicholas is a 2007 graduate of Central High School and currently attends Purdue University. He wrote his first novel during his senior year, entitled Danger in the House. Don’t miss this special opportunity to meet this talented author who will sign copies of his book. “Strangers in the Swamp”.

Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros
(Children's Day/Book Day)

(East Chicago, IN – May 5, 2008) Over 100 children and adults came out to enjoy the Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros program at the Main Library in East Chicago. The celebration emphasized the importance of reading. “Dora the Explorer “read bilingual stories, danced and took pictures with the children. Elizabeth Pulido (Union Benefica Mexicana Queen) performed several violin selections and “Alberto the Clown” did magic tricks and made animal ballons.The children had a raffle, received free books and were served refreshments.

Your personal history or your family's heritage with others in the Calumet Region Community. Video tape an oral history; loan or donate photographs and documents to the library's permanent collection. Loan items for exhibits.

Because of East Chicago's industrial roots and unique ethnic heritage, the history of this city, which embodies the American Dream, is both fascinating and complex.
