Technology
East Chicago Public Library strives to be the technology partner and support for the entire community
Support for the Community
We circulate Wi-Fi hotspots. We provide free Wi-Fi and public computer labs at all of our locations and reading rooms. We have 14 free technology classes in the spring and fall. We also have a computer technician available to assist you, one-on-one, with any technology support or additional training you need, free of charge, twice a week at our Community Help Desk.
LIBRARY OF THINGS
Not only do we have computers for the public to use, we are also building a “Library of Things” patrons will be able to reserve and use. We are adding new devices as well as new ways of reserving your spot. Please check back as our new devices come online throughout 2023.

Computer Classes
We offer 14 different computer classes in three different class tracks. Classes are two hours long and taught once a week. In the fall, starting in September, classes are held in the afternoons at our Main Library branch. In the spring, classes are taught in the evenings at our Robert A Pastrick branch.
Basic Computers
Our basics courses are designed to guide complete beginners through how to use a computer. We teach everything from how to use a computer mouse to how to save, move, open,
and edit different types of files.
Productivity Tools
Our productivity classes focus on software typically needed for modern jobs. The classes are designed for beginners and include topics like word processing and spreadsheets.
Internet Technologies
Navigating the Internet is becoming a neccessary part of modern life. Understanding how the Internet works, and how to use it safely, is within everyone’s reach.
